Anyone else skeptical about open-ear audio actually sounding good without sealing your ears?

I keep seeing the hype around open ear audio, so I did my homework. From what I can tell, there are two flavors: air conduction that beams sound toward your ear, and bone conduction that vibrates your cheekbone so you hear without blocking the canal.

What I learned, in human terms:

   - Awareness is the feature, not a bug. Great for runs, office, and quick chats.

   - Bass takes the hit. Without a seal, sub bass drops and companies lean on DSP tricks.

   - Fit is everything. Hooks and clips feel secure, but glasses and wind can mess with comfort and clarity.

   - Podcasts and calls shine, plane rides and bass heavy playlists not so much.

So I get the appeal, but I’m still skeptical these can match sealed buds for pure sound. If you’ve lived with them, what surprised you, good or bad?

Say I decide to buy, should I get Bose Ultra Open Earbuds or Shokz OpenFit 2+, looks like those are the main players. Other models I keep seeing: Sony LinkBuds, Soundcore OpenFit or AeroFit or AeroClip, Oladance OWS Pro, JBL Soundgear Sense, Cleer Arc II Sport, Huawei FreeClip.
